Want to be the best student in life?

Teachers Day is being celebrated in India on 5th September every year, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. This is a day to remember and seek blessings from our teachers. But, did you ever wonder that who actually is a teacher? Generally, the word teacher is associated with “a person whose occupation is teaching” [Reference: Word Web, the free dictionary]. However, if we dive deep inside and try to understand the real meaning of this word then we will realize that “Everything that teaches us a lesson in life, is our teacher”, be it a living or a non-living being/situation.

A teacher is the one, who moulds our future. Teachers indeed have a very important place and role to play in everyone’s life. However, at the same time, it is equally important on our part to be the best students in order to embrace the learning’s that a teacher intends to teach us. Now this, in turn, sprouts the obvious question that how to be the best student in life? Herewith, please be noted that by the term best student, I don’t mean the obedient or the studious ones. Well, there is no harm in being obedient or studious, but the definition of the best student does not revolve around these two words alone, it is much wider than that.

The best student is the one who knows how to learn, not just what to learn”. While, anyone who knows what to learn can just mug up and pass out with flying colours in the class tests, but this doesn’t certify that person to be the best student. What about the real tests that life throws towards us? Could anyone succeed in life just by mugging up things? Well, not really, because the hard-core reality is that life tests could only be passed by all those who know how to learn. Only when someone knows how to learn s/he will be able to learn from their mistakes and experiences, not otherwise.

“How to learn” is actually an art. The one who masters this art will always be hungry and hunting for opportunities to learn. If we understand this art then we will always be eager to learn from everything that comes across in our life. Just by knowing this art, a person’s perspective towards everything actually opens up and changes. Trust me, the one who knows the art to learn will eventually grow into a multi-talented personality.

Similarly, the best teacher is the one who teaches how to learn, not just what to learn. Now I am sure you must be wondering that who is going to teach you this art to learn. Well, need not to worry about, as always, I am here to reveal the secrets out. If you seriously want to be the best student in life then you have to remember two things i.e. a) Firstly, start looking things with the objective that what’s there for you to learn from them, and b) Secondly, don’t forget to learn, learn and just learn from them. If you make these two things as a part of your daily routine, then no one can stop you from being the best student in life. Let me explain these two points in detail –

  1. What’s there for you to learn – When you start looking things with the motive that what’s there for you to learn from them then your entire perspective towards life will actually change. You will no more feel like a victim when you find yourself in any odd situation, rather you will take it as yet another life challenge, which will serve you with some new learning’s. The day your perspective towards seeing things change, you will find yourself to be an altogether new person. Sounds good, right? Well, it actually is. Try it to know it better.
  2. Learn, learn and just learn – Seeing things from the motive to find what’s there for you to learn is only one part of this art. The second part is to learn from everything that comes across in life. When you take it up as a task to learn from each and every single thing then you actually start your path to be the best student in life. Knowing is one thing, but applying that knowledge is extremely important too. Knowledge without application is actually of no use. So don’t forget to gain some learning from every single thing that you encounter during the journey of your life. This, in turn, will help you in building a strong personality of yours.

I hope all of us masters the art of learning and prosper in our respective lives. So, on this auspicious Teachers Day let us all pledge to be the best student in our life. We should always respect our teachers, as well as, the student inside us and nurture it throughout our life. Do remember that if the student or the zeal to learn dies, then nothing can ever make us rise and shine again. We should, in fact, treat everything as our teacher and be grateful to every being, be it a living or a non-living being.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who sowed the thought of ‘keep learning throughout’ in my inner self. This indeed motivates me to keep moving and growing in my professional, as well as, personal life. I wish you all a good health and a prosperous life ahead.

Happy Teachers Day!

Stay in touch.

Take care. God Bless!

A writer at heart and creative at art. Someone who wants his words to leave an impact. Someone who is hungry for genuine feedback and not the number of likes. The thought behind my writing has always been to revolutionize the thought process which is overpowered with the set obsolete parameters, as well as, to bring into life, a new perspective towards everything around us. When I am penning down these lines, the beautiful composition by Mr. Dushyant Kumar Tyagi strikes my mind, "Sirf hungama khada karna mera maksad nahi, Meri koshish hai ki yeh soorat badalni chahiye; Merey seeney mein nahi to terey seeney mein sahi, Ho kahin bhi aag lekin aag jalni chahiye". The meaning of this verse (in my words) is that - My only motive is not of rabble-rousing, but my efforts are directed towards bringing about a change; I want the fire of awareness to lit somewhere, if not in my heart then maybe in yours, but the fire has to lit. Readers are a writer’s strength and one of the motivating factors that keep the writer always alive. All the honest readers are undoubtedly the unbiased mirror of a writer’s content. Hope the readers like my blogs and could correlate with them. It will be an honour if the readers are able to gain something worth from my write ups. At the same time, it will be my pleasure to know your honest views. Each and every single feedback is highly appreciated. So do not hesitate to comment with utmost truth in your words. Keep reading and keep learning. I wish you all a very healthy, happy and a prosperous life. Love to all. Be in touch. Take care and God Bless!
